Royal Oak Landscape Patio

The homeowner wanted more from the outdoor space beside her condo. We converted a grassy area that offered little use into a defined brick paver patio, combining careful preparation with a patterned finish that complements the existing entrance.

Making better use of a small outdoor space

The grassy area beside this Royal Oak condo was not useful to the homeowner. Her goal was straightforward: replace it with a brick paver patio she could enjoy. We planned the footprint around the existing porch, steps, and walkway so the new surface would fit naturally into the space.

Preparing the ground and establishing the grade

We excavated approximately 12–15 inches and established a 1% grade to support drainage. We then compacted the exposed ground. This preparation established the space needed for the patio assembly beneath the finished pavers.

Building a stable base

We added a crushed-gravel aggregate base and compacted it to create a stable foundation. A sand bedding layer followed, providing the setting surface for the pavers. The work beneath the finished surface was an essential part of the installation.

Installing Oaks Classic brick pavers

We installed Oaks Classic brick pavers in a herringbone pattern with a contrasting border. The pattern adds visual interest, while the border defines the patio’s perimeter. Carefully fitted pieces carry the layout around the existing porch and adjacent walkway.

Finishing the joints and perimeter

We finished the joints with polymeric sand and secured the perimeter with concrete edging. These final steps completed the paver installation and supported the defined edges of the new patio.

A practical transformation

The finished patio gives the homeowner a usable outdoor surface where there was previously an area of lawn she did not enjoy. Its warm, varied tones, herringbone pattern, and contrasting border bring a finished appearance to the space beside her condo.
